SA - IMPROVE PROCESS FOR BOND REFUNDS

An improved silent tenant refund process will be launched 30 May 2017 by Consumer and Business Services (CBS) in partnership with Housing SA and the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT).

The new process will streamline silent tenant bond claims; that is claims received without the consent of the tenant/resident.
 
After a silent tenant bond claim is received, CBS will write to the claimant requesting them to lodge a list of claims with supporting documents within 14 working days. 
 
If you have an email address recorded with CBS, you will be asked to submit your documents electronically. Hard copy documents can be submitted if you don't have your email address recorded with CBS. Providing your email address when lodging the bond will speed up the claim process.  
 
Where appropriate, CBS will share supporting documents with Housing SA and SACAT to reduce the burden on applicants by removing the need to provide the same information to multiple agencies.
 
If the bond claim is: 
- A guarantee: CBS will direct details of the claim and supporting documents to Housing SA for review and determination.
- A cash bond: Details of the claim and supporting documents will be referred to the CBS, Bonds Claims Assessor who will review and determine eligibility of the claim.
- Rejected: Due to lack of proof or incomplete documentation the claimant will need to apply to SACAT and pay an application fee.

To ensure the bond refund request is processed quickly it is important the correct information is provided. Examples of documents required to support a claim is available at sa.gov.au
